Scarlett returns home to find more problems awaiting her.

Scarlett brushed the gray sand off of her scraped palms. Her heart still beat heavily against her ribs. The false stone covered the opening about her head. The moonlight was shut out leaving Shade and Scarlett in the dimmed torched light.

“I am sorry.” Shade gazed down at his feet. “There is something you should know.”

“Go to bed Skye.” Blaze emerged from the shadows.

“I am no child and I will go to bed when I wish.” Scarlett could feel her face grow hot.

“Then you shall leave me to council with Shade.” Her brother’s eyes burned with a simmering anger.

Scarlett silently wished she could turn to shadow like Shade. She desperately wanted to listen in on their discussion. What was Blaze so angry about? Had he known they were nearly captured by the spies?

Blaze’s voice echoed quietly but sharply off the walls. “It was a foolish act to even take her there. How could her recalling any past events make any difference to the times that have come to face us?”

“You would not have went to find her in the first place if you did not believe in the old man’s prophecies. You know what her destiny is to be!”

“My mother’s father was a fool! He told those tales because that was his own belief.” Blaze’s voice started to rise. “How can you believe the words of a man who married a common being?”

Scarlett was standing with her door ajar. Her ears were pricked in anticipation that more information would be revealed. At the mentioning of her grandmother made her gut give an odd tumble. Could the stories she heard as a child from the old woman down the street be the prophecies Shade believed in?
