Hours had past and the queen did her best to hold her tongue and support her husband in the planning of the festival but, her spirit would not give her rest as she eased around the palace the foreboding sense of danger seem to creep around her shoulders.
She paused for a moment besides a large column closing her eyes she took a deep breath, a chill crept up her spine and the fine gold hairs on her forearm rose.
“Dear sister, why are you here unattended, one might think you are up to something,” Set said leaning close to her.
“Get away from me,” She snapped pushing him back as she d her self from him.
“Oh come on is that how you treat your brother?”
“I do not claim you as such, I can see the dark jealousy you hold in your heart against my husband…your own brother.”
Set smirked as his dark eyes carefully glanced around the surrounding area making sure no servants were in earshot of their conversation. “Why do you test me woman, why do you stand in my way,” he growled.
“Stand in your way of what?” She played dumb hoping he would reveal his dark secrets.
Set looked down on her with contempt he ran his tongue against his teeth, “You can’t guard him forever, there will come a time that he will have to see for himself,” he warned her as he began to step pass her intentionally knocking her shoulder.
“Ra, will not let you destroy him.” She said over her shoulder.
“I will see about that!” He replied. “See you at tonights feast!” he added knowing it would enrage her that he was invited by the king.
Isis gasped at his statement and rushed of to find her husband, Set smirked as he watched her disappear into the palace. He headed to his house just outside of the palace and upon entering was quickly greeted by one of his servants.
“Your highness, it is ready.”
“Are the measurements correct?”
“Yes, your highness exactly to your precise specifications.”
Set followed his servant into a large room where a lavishly decorated coffin stood against the wall.
“It has been hand crafted by the finest artisans around the galaxy the gemstones are of the highest quality and the gold the very best there is to has to offer.” His servant spoke while pointing out each fine detail.
“It’s perfect, tonight…our plan takes action…tonight.” Set grinned.
The Queen did not wait for permission to enter her husband’s office a meeting was in session however the queen burning with anger entered her husbands court and stood before him speechless.
King Osiris looked upon his wife, her beautiful gown made with handwoven gold lace lay on top of the finest blue silk a long detailed split ran up her right leg revealing her alluring slender legs the breeze from the open window blew against her lifting her long hair and revealing more of her beautiful legs then he like. He quickly looked around the room to see if anyone else was staring at his wife instantly all eyes fell to the floor as he rose from his elaborate hand carved stone desk.
“Everyone is dismissed this meeting will continue tomorrow!” He yelled upset by his wife’s sudden appearance but mainly because he knew that every man in that room was now lusting over her. He stood before her staring into her eyes penetrating her soul.
Queen Isis did her best to maintain her eye contact with him but, her knees began to buckle, her heart began to ache and the air left her lungs as she began to fall he caught her, holding her body firmly against his he kissed her chin and lips. “You know I don’t like other men to look at you.” He whispered.
“Why did you invite Set?” She questioned as she regained her composure.
“He is apart of the kingdom, I know that he is not well liked but he is my brother…our brother.”
“I do not claim him as my brother, he has a dark heart, he’s jealous of you and wants to destroy your kingdom.” She argued back.
“Please my love, trust me nothing bad will happen.”
“I can’t lose you, all day I have been plagued with this bad feeling…i wander this palace searching the dark corners for those who may wish you harm.” She whimpered against his chest.
“Do not worry about me,”he smiled lifting her chin, “How is your vineyard, when was the last time you’ve walked through and checked on the grapes. The feast to night will be for everyone wine will be gone first.” He lightly chuckled struggling to find away to ease her worries.
“This is no laughing matter your not taking it seriously, your brother wishes you great harm and he has waited patiently for the right opportunity to strike, I sense that tonight he has found it.” Isis proclaimed as she pull her self out of his embrace.
Osiris stood there for a moment with his arms out stretched, absorbing the intensity of her words. “Isis,” he called but she turned her back to him consumed by her tears. “Isis,” he called again now reaching out for her and pulling her against his hard chest. “My heart aches for you, I don’t want you worrying over this or over me, I will be fine.”
“Set has something planned please reconsider, you are a just and honorable king, you are so trusting of your brother. He smiles in your face and may seem like he cares about you but he does not.”
“What are you saying Isis?” he growled becoming irritated with what she was saying.
“What I’ve been saying for some time now, he has been heard cursing the day of your birth, the day of your crowning he was suspected of plotting your death before the crown could touch your head.”
“He has always been there for me?”
“How, by showing up to your festivals only to sit in a dark corner spitting out dark incantations, he is not happy for you and I hope for your sake he does not show tonight.”
“Isis I will not have you talk of my brother in this way anymore, maybe you should not come tonight, you seem to be a little ill.” A lump grew in his throat as he spoke the words, tears welled in his eyes as he saw how his words hurt her.
Speechless Isis bowed her head tears fell from her eyes as she turned and walked out the door Osiris rushed after her, but stopped in the doorway reminding himself he must hold his ground. His heart broke as he watched her walk away and disappear into their bed chamber.
Instantly he wanted to take back his harsh words but that would mean accepting that what she was saying was true, and he refused to believe that his brother could be so heartless towards him.
