The first steps. And a setback.

Seven months after the surgery Janice took her first unaided steps.  With that she started gaining strength and mobility daily.

A month later she was back on a horse.  She talked to the girl who worked the stable and found a saddle that Sue could use with her braces.  Somehow Janice’s selfishness seemed to disappear with her understanding of what she had been given.  Sue had never ridden but with some help she was soon out riding like she had done it for years.  With free time she also started working with Jack in the business.  She was smart and wanted to learn.  With that Janice got interested in the business too and soon the three of them were doing business deals that were making big bucks.

Two years later Jack was killed in an air crash.

The two girls first went into mourning for about a month and did little with the business then slowly they came out of it.  Sue had come to look at Jack like a father.  The two girls started working together on deals, tripping one after another.  Jack had left ten million dollars and ten percent of the business to Sue in his will in addition to the two for her care.  She asked Janice if she should move out of the apartment and was told not unless she wanted to move.  She shook her head.  “I never had a sister.  I think I have one.”  The response from Janice several days later was a construction crew starting work to add to the apartment and open it as part of the main house.  She was not a guest.  She was part of the household.

Janice was out riding with Sue about a year later.  Suddenly she took off on the horse and rode toward a series of fences.  The horse cleared the first one and then lost his balance.  Janice was thrown.  Sue hurried to her on her horse.  She could not get back up if she got down.  She called on her cell and as soon as she got through to the stable and alerted the girl there she slid off the horse and dragged herself to Janice.  She was laying over the fence on her back.  Sue pulled herself up on the fence and wiped Janice’s hair and they started to cry.
