Jan Jourge and Judd Sanders were cast members with Denise Shore in the TV series, "School Days". When they left the show they were cast in movies and were seeing success in movies that exceeded that in TV. Then a broken hydraulic line on a set scalded them with hot oil. Before they are even taken from the set the studio starts working to absolve itself of blame which will leave them without compensation.
He handed her the folders. She opened each of them and looked at them. “You picked these up at the office last night?”
“Yes. I wanted to be here today and get this on the way. We need to be sure these kids get the best of care.”
“And this is the best offer the studio can make?”
“This is the best offer. We have pulled together our insurance company and the people involved, looked at their injuries and put together a package. Since we are the ones facing these kids and know them we felt we would work to see they got the best. We believe it is good enough that you cannot do better for them by going to court.”
“Let me get this straight. You picked up these papers last night at the office, you are concerned about the kids, you have looked at their injuries and this is the best offer you can make?”
“Yes.”
She faced him and his eyes diverted from her gaze. Instantly she confirmed he was lying and she would now call his bluff. She looked squarely at him and said, “You expect me to believe that collection of fabrications?”
His eyes diverted back to her and then away again. “I expect you to see it as a great settlement.”
“Because you tell me it is?”
“Sure. I have spent a lot of time on this since the accident. Do you doubt that?”
“I am sure you have spent a lot of time on this. But can I be frank with you? It will probably help the future of this case if I am.”
“Sure.”
“I have studied this paper for less than a minute. From the amount I come to one of two conclusions, you do not understand the severity of the injuries these two have sustained or you don’t care about them. In addition I am sure that at least some of what you have told me is not the truth. I am not sure how much.”
Attorney Martz glared at her. He wanted to say, “You little bitch,” but he was sure it wasn’t going to be productive. Instead he replied, “I resent your implying I have been less than candid.”
