Jan Jourge and Judd Sanders were cast members with Denise Shore in the TV series, "School Days". When they left the show they were cast in movies and were seeing success in movies that exceeded that in TV. Then a broken hydraulic line on a set scalded them with hot oil. Before they are even taken from the set the studio starts working to absolve itself of blame which will leave them without compensation.
They would gripe about the eighteen thousand dollars but when Jack told them how important this was to his operation, they would sign it. And he knew Jack would pass on the word, Jack was looked upon as an asset, and Andy had planted that seed when he turned up Jack’s network connection. Jack asked how he did it. “Well. I have some spare equipment I keep in case something like this happens, an office has problems, whatever. It isn’t anything different than you looking at what may go wrong and figuring out how to still serve the client. I just fix things so you can do a better job. It’s the same as you, if I do a good job, nobody notices. If I don’t, they all do. Right now that little box over there, it is called a router, is handling everything and it is the only one I have. I wanted two, they are only a thousand bucks and they cut one out of my budget. If it quits, you are off the air till I get one here. It may be a day without internet, phone, e-mail, printers. I will try to order a spare today if the boss doesn’t nix it” Andy didn’t bother mentioning that he could probably get on at Staples in a half hour unless they were out of them, then he would have to go across town for one, but that wouldn’t help his cause. He heard a lawyer one time say you only presented your side of the case, not the other layer’s case. He liked that. If lawyers thought it was good to do, it was good to do to them.
Andy clicked on the send button and passed the request for equipment to his boss. As he expected three minutes after his boss got that message he got one from Jack, cc’d to Jack’s boss and Andy. It was a request that Andy be allowed to acquire the equipment needed toraise it even a small amount, the expenditure was prudent.
As Andy was finishing his coffee he got a second e-mail from his boss. It was a forward from one of the senior partners. “Make a list of what you need, clear it with me today and get it on order. Use priority shipping if needed. Call me by two so we can get this on order today for overnight shipping.”
Andy smiled. Twenty thousand would have been nice. Two hundred was just awesome. Now he had to figure out how to make this equipment essential. He decided on twenty three thousand. That would really get him a lot of toys.
