Jan Jourge and Judd Sanders were cast members with Denise Shore in the TV series, "School Days". When they left the show they were cast in movies and were seeing success in movies that exceeded that in TV. Then a broken hydraulic line on a set scalded them with hot oil. Before they are even taken from the set the studio starts working to absolve itself of blame which will leave them without compensation.

It was agreed that Jack’s team would take over the space as well as the lead. The studio lawyers and paralegal staff would vacate to provide space for them. Only Martz would stay to represent the studio. It was clear to anyone that the carrier lawyers were taking over. Jack Dennis called him over to his desk. “I need you to brief me on where we are. They want me to get this settled without going to court and without publicity.” Jack wanted to have Martz where he could watch him.

“I doubt that is possible with the attorney who is representing the Jan and Judd. She is a rookie, an upstart and a real hard ass. Her name is Amanda Blair. She rejected our offer without even looking at it. We offered forty million each.”

“We did what? I told the head office to offer about two hundred to start yesterday hoping she would counter between two fifty and three twenty five. I told them that when they first wanted to offer eighty. Who made the brilliant decision to offer forty?”

Martz was silent for a minute. “We checked, she hasn’t had a case that won over a quarter of a million. We figured to start low.”

Jack shook his head. He wanted to say, “You stupid bastard. You made an offer without knowing who you were facing. And worse, you underestimated her. She is major league and you are washing out in the minors.” But he asked, “Do you know who she is?”

“Some new lawyer in town. It’s a one lawyer office. She is barely making the rent.”

“Is that all you know about her?”

“Yes.”

“Well. Let me fill you in. She doesn’t look it but she is thirty two years old. She was part of a large firm in Sacramento until three years ago. She practiced there from the time she was in law school, was an intern then a staff, then a partner. Her name was Amanda Newsome, she was married to Richard Newsome during college and practiced under that name. He tried to kill her, shot her in the neck and she lost partial use of her left hand. He beat the criminal rap by claiming it was an accident. She divorced him, filed a reckless endangerment lawsuit for a half mill, the jury gave her a multi-million dollar settlement, she took back her maiden name after the rehab and moved here to practice.”
