Today lets talk about the elderly. The elderly need us. Lets help them.

Today’s food for thought is about learning how to understand elderly people. You may have a loved one that has dementia. You may struggle to understand how they are trying to communicate with you. Don’t try to hard. Just except them for who they are.

Elderly people get confused easily and tend to panic and look bewildered when your eyes meet. This is normal for aging people to do. Loved ones can help by just learning how to change the subject when the tough times start rolling. Tell your aging loved ones that there perfect and you think they’re just all it. Then laugh and maybe even tickle them. You’ll see they’ll smile and laugh right back. You may have just made their day.

All people are really all a like. We all need time spent with the ones that we love. Give a little time and you’ll see more smiles and not so many frowns.

Go visit a nursing home and see how many elderly people are smiling. You’ll see hardly any. They tend to get lonely and frustrated. They’re confused. Then when they don’t seem to remember anyone, this makes them more confused. The elderly people want their family to need them, no matter how forgetful and unstable they maybe acting. They would tell you if they could, that they never want you to go away. All they would say is,” Please Stay.”

The next time you’re with your aging loved one, look into their eyes and let them feel the strength that lies behind your beautiful eyes. Eyes was invented for more than just seeing straight ahead of us. It’s also for being able to see what lies within each other’s spirits.

What are you waiting for? Haven’t you got someone you need to visit?

Really an inspiring message to keep us treasure our elderly. After all they are our roots and when time pass upon us, it will be nothing sooner than our turn to be looked upon or be taken for granted.

Thank you for a great message. Unless we die young we will all be older one day. I know I am working my way there. As a nurse I love to talk with my older patients they have such great life stories. They are a living part of history.

Our older citizens are being ignored by a selfish society. We get so much enjoyment in hearing what they have to say, if we just take the time to LISTEN. Great article.
