After studying in a monastery for six years, Joshua Luste experiences a change of heart and decides to leave for a change to the fast life. He leaves the friars at the Franciscan monastery in the hills outside Naples, and moves to a world of clubs, lights, music, and sex, when he submerges himself in a life of hedonistic living to later face an inner conflict that almost kills him.
A handsome man with a sociable demeanor, he is soon called Yoshi by the many who befriend him and happily glides into his new lifestyle, as his yearning for answers leads him to keep a diary of the change in his life. In it he documents his inner most thoughts and feelings, which includes numerous encounters with women and his first experiences with lesbians and hermaphroditic men. His writings are shockingly revealing, as he scrutinizes and judges his time devoted to divinity in contrast to his new life, and reveals physical desires he never knew he had.
Word of his diary travels back to the Franciscans, when a friend from the monastery is dispatched to find him and bring him back—but he refuses to return and sways the opinion of his friend who begins to see him in a different light, when the head of the monastery, who is close to Joshua’s family, hires a professional thief to steal the diary and kidnap Joshua.
When Joshua realizes the diary has been stolen, not knowing that the next thing to go missing will be him, he and his friend scheme to stop the thief when he is struck by demons. His mind is torn between his past and his present when people from the monastery come to his side, but the only thing that rids his illness is a gorging of orgies, and sexually decadent encounters.
After overcoming the inner conflict, he is visited by someone from his past he has not heard from for ten years, and the two of them endure a painfully emotional catharsis in facing their differences, and finding a way to reconcile them.
