The sound of helicopter gunships echoed through the thick canopy of the forest as Little White Wolf turned and ran with the wolf pack in the direction of the village. He could hear the clattering of the chain guns as the pilots unleashed the fury of their weapons on the unsuspecting village! Mother had warned earlier this day that something was not at all right and in her wisdom sent young White Wolf off to play with his friends in the forest. The medicine woman knew he would remain safe as long as he and the wolf pack did not venture out of it.

He was about to step out from the cover of the thick canopy and into the clearing which overlooked the village below when the voice of Old Dragon called out to him from within! Stop! You cannot help those in the village; it’s a trap set by those that seek the power of the blue diamond! The soldiers below will not harm the people of the village yet! The people behind this attack are merely using them as bait to set a trap for you child!

My family and friends need my help old one! I must go to them! The young boy replied.

You cannot help them at this time child! You must travel to the east and remain beside the sea. The Blue Diamond must be returned to the lost city beneath the ocean! Only then will those you love in this realm be protected! Your journey will be long and dangerous; there are those that know your coming and will assist you as they are able to do so. Watch out for the one called, Windigo! He is a hunter and not of the earth realm! The ancient ones say he has been behind all that has happened and will stop at nothing to get what you have in your possession!

Young White wolf peered out from the cover of the forest; Old Dragon’s words echoed through his mind mixing with the emotions that washed over him as he watched the soldiers gather up all whom lived in the village. They herded them like live stock into the center of the village square below. Ringed by men dressed in black, the villagers huddled in fear! The leader of the attack force walked into the crowd and returned with Billy Two Feathers and his mother. The medicine woman was not making it easy for her assailant to drag her out into the opening away from the crowd. She managed to take out three of the men that were aiding the leader with her walking stick! However, she was no match for all of them and was soon overcome as was Billy who went to her aid.

One of the soldiers raised his weapon and struck his mother! She slumped forwards and lay unconscious on the ground. That was all it took to make young White Wolf throw caution to the wind! Longbow in hand, he unleashed a volley of arrows at the soldiers below! The one which struck his mother screamed out in pain; the arrow finding its mark. The leader bent over his downed man and pulled the bolt from his shoulder. The others went to return fire and he waved them off! Then speaking into a mega phone he called out to young White Wolf.

Ok boy, fair enough! No one else needs to get hurt here! My man hurt your mother and you hurt him! You have something in your possession that we want and we have something you want! I say the playing field is just about even now and suggest that before this gets out of hand and others end up hurt, that we make a trade? Your mother and the villagers for the Blue Diamond and we will go on our way; no one needs to get hurt! Come on son, what do you say? Do we have a deal?

Commander Jentry and Lisa were not among those gathered in the village square below. White Wolf scanned the crowd again and they were not there. He was not sure what happened to them but he knew they were both still very much alive. He pulled a piece of paper out of his pouch and scribbled a message on it. Then he tied it to the arrow and sent it hurling through the air in the commanders direction below. The arrow struck the ground in front of him and he retrieved the message and read it.

The message was very clear and extremely direct!

Foolish man! I head for the sea in the West or is it the sea in the East? I have what you want! Leave the medicine woman and those of the village out of this! If any harm should befall any of those you hold captive, I shall absorb the Blue Diamond within me and destroy it as well as myself! If you want me and the power of the gem, then you will do it on my terms and not yours! Will the one that has sent you be happy with you for causing the destruction of that which he wants? The note said.

The man in charge below crushed the note into a ball and hurled it to the ground! Pulling his sidearm from its holster he pointed it at his mother which was starting to move around a little on the ground as she awakened. Speaking into his megaphone the man called out to young White Wolf once more.

Son I have no qualms about killing those you hold close so it’s your choice! He was about to shoot the medicine woman when his radio sprang to life! Holstering his pistol as he spoke to the person on the other end of his receiver, he looked up the mountainside in the boy’s direction.

Ok kid! Have it your way! But we will hold onto your mother and friend until this is over! The man I work for will soon lose patience with you and destroy your loved ones himself if you do not return that which is his! Just so you know kid, we know that you’re heading east to the eastern sea board! You will make a slip up and when you do it will be your downfall! Count on it! I will be waiting for you by the sea! The man yelled.

Then waving his soldiers back to their gunships, they left the village taking Billy Two Feathers and the medicine woman with them as they left.

White Wolf watched as the gunships disappeared out of sight over the mountain range. His heart sank as the last one faded out of sight; he had no idea where these people were taking his mother and Billy Two Feathers. The wolves began to growl. They were warning their man child of unseen visitors in the woods. White wolf turned to meet the intruders; his bow and arrows ready.

Hold it boy! Don’t shoot! It’s me and Lisa! A voice called out as Commander Jentry and his sister emerged from behind the trees and walked in his direction. Looks like you’re in need of my help child. Do you know who that was down there in the village? He asked.

No! I do not know the one who attacked the village of my mother’s people. White Wolf replied.

You’re lucky the ones behind this want you alive and have him on a short tether! That was none other than Captain Skinner and the one you shot was his son Private Skinner! His son uses the alias Sledge! They are soldiers of fortune and will work for the highest bidder! They have been known to be ruthless and have completely eradicated entire villages! This Merc and his men are backed by someone with unlimited resources! They have the state of the art machinery and all the trimmings that go with them. Jentry said.

They know that I have the Blue Diamond and that I’m traveling to the ocean in the east! I cannot allow the power cell to fall into their hands! Even if it means I shall never see my mother or Billy Two Feathers again! The boy replied.

Lisa upon sensing his distress came to him and wrapped her arms around him and pulled the boy that was fighting hard to contain his tears close to her; she whispered softly in his ear as she ran her fingers through his long blonde hair. It’s ok child! Let it out! You don’t need to be strong and hide your emotions! We are here with you and we shall help you get through these hard times ahead! You have seen more pain and suffering then any one child should ever see but still you remain strong even when faced with insurmountable odds! Let it out child! Do not let this destroy who you are!

Lisa felt his tears soaking through her shirt and motioned to her brother to leave them alone. Go ahead of us and check the trail to make sure it is safe for us to proceed. She told him. I need a few moments alone with White Wolf. She said.
