Karen Harris is a young woman who narrowly escapes death on the freeway. She tells her mom how she has taken control of her life.

She came out with a 4×5 card lay it down and then came out with a pencil. She wrote, “Mom, I love you.” It wasn’t good but it was clear.

Kimberly bent down and hugged her. “But I wished. You know. This didn’t happen.”

Darin spoke up, “We all wish it hadn’t happened. But now we have to help her, support her, love her and we all need to put the past in the past.”

Karen asked if they would walk with her. She got out of bed and they started down the hall. Karen stopped at the nursing station and asked about meals. The nurse said the cafeteria on the second floor was open. “Could I go down there to eat?”

“Sure, but your meal is on it’s way up. And if you go to the cafeteria you will have to pay for it.”

“I hate to throw it away. I don’t mind paying. Is there someone who you could give it to?”

The nurse smiled. “I can fix that problem. There is a little girl down the hall. Her mother is with her and hasn’t been eating well. She doesn’t want to go out to eat. The family is bringing her sandwiches.”

“Can you give it to her?”

“Sure.”

“Is she, the little girl going to be here long?”

“Isn’t there a way you can have meals delivered to the room?”

“Yes. You could just tell them at the cafeteria and pay. I’m sorry I can’t give you the name or room number and you need that.”

“No problem. Will you be here when the meal comes up?”

“Sure.”

She took the nurse’s name. “I’ll have it sent to you at the desk. Will that work?”

“Well. Yes. What will I tell the woman?”

“Just tell her someone who doesn’t know her cares enough to give her a meal and pray for her and her daughter.”
