When they left the set Kimberly was waiting for Karen. “Let me hold your, hook.” She reached out and took the object that she had previously avoided like it was a poisonous snake. “When we get home I want to see your arm, everything, as soon as you are able to let me.” She had avoided looking at Karen’s arm “I sat there watching and realized that I have had an attitude that would hurt people. I promise to not jump to conclusions or get panicky.”

Karen laughed. “That will be a first.”

“We all have to grow up some time.”
“Thanks mom.”

“I called you father last night and talked to him.”

“Thanks. I wasn’t sure how to handle that. Dad always got really upset when I got hurt.”

“I told him to watch the program today.”

When they got to her home the answering machine was full. She started playing them and listing the calls. The thirtieth second one was from her dad. It was simply, “I am so proud of you. Call me when you can but I probably will not be here. I’m going to fly out tonight. I want to be there.”

She started to cry. Her dad’s visits were rare because he didn’t like to fly. That he would fly to be there was important. As soon as she finished the messages she called him.

“Dad. If you don’t want to fly, you don’t have to.”

“Hunny, I have to fly. I would look like a wimp if I didn’t compared to such a brave daughter. They might think you weren’t my child. See you tonight. Got to go. They are calling my plane.”

“Thanks.”

By the time NT came on the air at six the major segment covered Karen, Darin, and Patti. It wasn’t the expose it was intended to be and in fact the material the show bought from Bree and Mark depreciated in value significantly during the ten hours. Had Bree waited ten hours to sell the pictures she would have been lucky to get ten thousand for the whole lot. She joked about it as she and Mark watched the show. Rather than an expose that was intended it had almost an ‘up with Karen’ line and it probably did as much for NT as the expose would have. Darin and Patti came through as two good people. The three shots from the cell phone were good and all three showed them in a good light. On one Karen’s right hand was obvious sticking past the sling. NT bought stock footage of Karen and Darin on the previous show together as well as a couple shorts of the show today. Unlike most reports on NT, it carried a line that was favorable.
