One of Patti’s schoolmates comes into the picture.
In the second segment Patti asked that they run a short piece of the show from the day before. It was the segment where she talked about her feelings and ended with the Artie Johnson comments. When the clip ended there was an empty chair next to her.
“I want everyone here to meet the woman from the audience who got up and talked. She is someone I met in Kindergarten. I didn’t recognize her but she introduced herself, we talked last night and I asked her to be on this side of the camera today. We spent kindergarten, first, second, fourth and part of fifth grade in a classroom together. Then she moved and I haven’t seen her since. It was interesting how we met yesterday. And I have learned something I didn’t know for some years. I now know why she left the school we attended together. In setting up this segment I also asked Karen if we can share the video footage because she is involved. She agreed. I want all of you to welcome Diane Feldman who I knew as Diane Simmons.”
Diane came out and sat next to Patti. Patti took her hand and lay it on Diane’s. “Diane is a little nervous. She thinks this is a scary place. I want to run a short video. Our studio audience saw this yesterday after the show and I think out whole audience should see it.”
They ran the clip of Karen and Diane. When it ended Patti looked over. “Diane, I thank you for doing what I couldn’t do and Karen needed.”
“You are welcome.” The woman who yesterday seemed so bold today seemed very tense. Her responses were terse.
“After the show Diane introduced herself. She and I went to grade school together. She moved away when we were in fifth grade. We had a reunion yesterday and during that I felt we needed her on the show for another reason. She has only today off and needs to get back to work so we scheduled her today. She is quite an interesting person but is a little nervous about being here so audience, make her welcome.” There was applause. “Diane, can you tell us what you do for a living?”
“I evaluate sites for microwave links.”
“Can you tell me what that means? I doubt if we have more than two people in our audience who know and quite frankly, I didn’t till you told me yesterday.”
