They were nearly ready to leave when Patti came in. I have a call coming in. Denise and Carol can stay. Julie Higgens wants to talk to Diane and me. The receptionist said she insisted she had to talk to us. I told her to give me time to get down here and then transfer the call.”

“When someone says “Julie” I somewhat cringe. Julie Watson was the girl who really gave me the worst time with my eye.”

“She was the one I punched out when I got into trouble. It can’t be her. I think she moved back east when she got married.”

The phone rang just as she said it. Patti hit the speaker button. “Hello. This is Patti.”

The receptionist said, “Here is your call. Julie, are you there?”

“I am. I know it is past the hour but I didn’t want to interrupt others who needed to talk to you. I guess I should have called earlier. I’m sorry but I really need to talk to you. The girl who answered the phone, I want to thank you for your time.”

“You are welcome.” The receptionist dropped off the line.

“Julie, this is Patti. You are on a speaker phone. Diane is here along with Carol and Denise.”

“Oh. Good. I am glad they are there. I wanted to thank them for the programs and some of the things they have done. They can stay but I really called to talk to you and Diane.”

“Go ahead.”

“I gave the receptionist the name Julie Higgens, which is my married name. Before I was married my last name was Watson. I went to school with you. But I assume you know that.”

“Actually we mentioned you when we heard the first name but we really didn’t think it would be you.”

“I saw today’s program and I just needed to call. I know I can’t say anything that will undo the harm I did to both of you. I called you names that had to hurt and I treated Patti like crap too because she was your friend. I am truly sorry.”

Diane responded, “It was then. I have moved on with my life.”

“I watched today’s program and realized that I am part of the reason why Diane has been hurt and why she does some things. I went over to the mirror and looked at it and I didn’t like what I saw.”
