A young female athlete girl breaks her leg playing soccer. After treating the fracture the doctor sees the potential of a more serious condition and calls her back. While he is doing the tests she begins to study the diagnosis, treatment and outcome of the treatment and in doing so she encounters something disturbing. Are all the surgeries being done for this condition necessary?

Dr. Abdul is Arrested

Armed with arrest and search warrants police arrived at Dr. Abdul’s home at 7.30 AM. He was placed under arrest and taken away. Forensic teams entered the house as soon as the site was secure. Articles were tagged and taken to labs.

He was first arraigned on Federal RICCO charges, then on state charges of assault, maiming, violations of various state medical license laws. He and several named and unnamed persons we the targets of various conspiracy charges.

His lawyer argued he was not a flight risk and the federal judge set bail at one hundred thousand dollars. In the state court his lawyer again argued he was not a flight risk. Assistant District Attorney Susan Bates handed several pages of paper to the judge. It included copies she had just received from investigators searching his home. They were itineraries under false names and false passports found in his home. It was a plan to leave the country. The plan ended with him being essentially unreachable in Iran. Bail was set at 2 million dollars and required house arrest with electronic monitoring.

Terri and Lois broke for lunch about twelve thirty and went next door to a café they had eaten at during the trial. It was close, it was nice, the food was good but it was too full from eleven to twelve thirty so they always ate early or late. While they were eating Lois mentioned this to the waitress.

“The boss wants to move the dining area, there is a bigger place that is empty on the other side of us that would be perfect but we just can’t get the owners to agree to terms. They don’t want the small area next to the law office to be empty. It is hard to rent. If they do we could let the kitchen where it is, take that space for a dining room and it is twice the size of this. The kitchen can support a lot more than the dining space will.”

“Have you had someone work with you, a lawyer.”

“Lawyers are expensive. We don’t have that kind of money.”

“We know a couple lawyers. One of them might just take this for nothing. Could you ask the manager to come out if he has a couple minutes?”

“Sure. Is there something wrong?”

“No. There may be something very right.”

The manager came over. Lois asked him to sit down. She explained the situation. They needed space, the current dining room was two small store fronts next to Sam’s office. If they could take one, leave the other to him as a small dining room and get the landlord to rent him the larger store on the other side would that be good? The manager looked stunned. “I could keep half of the current dining room and have the bigger one too?”
