We have made the decision to travel and see this beautiful sun drenched country, (Australia) with our nine year old daughter. This is the beginning of our journey.
Well the road is long and hard but it is clear. We have decided to travel Australia in a gypsy house that we will design and build. This decision came after realizing; why stop in a house to stock up on “stuff” that will get lost, left behind, stolen, or destroyed? I have always had ‘itchy feet’ and just can’t keep still. Call me Nomad, call me gypsy, call me anything but guess what you can’t call me late for dinner! LOL!
Our gypsy house is going to need to have 2 bedrooms, a hobby room and a common living area. Placement is a key factor in the design process. The general floor plan will have the 2 rooms at opposite ends with a combined kitchen, dining lounge. Separate toilet and shower and a laundry. There are quite a few pre-made designs out there, but nothing (so far) that is going to suit us and still be economical to travel with, easy enough to repair, self contained, and besides all that it just wouldn’t be our design! Nothing more beautiful than to live in the dream
We have been tossing up between the bus and the caravan. It hasn’t eventuated to very much but a matter of preference. Personally I like the one piece unit; we can always tow a small trailer on the back for a car. I used to adore the gypsy houses we used to see when we went to the Gypsy Fair in New Zealand once a year. That always inspired me. There was nothing greater than to see crafts and a quality home-on wheels. I loved it I thinks that’s where my addiction started. I don’t recall any that had a towing trailer for cars though. I have never been much for staying at home, just ask my family. I got bored with my surroundings and often with the place itself. There was one place I could have happily stayed for the rest of my life, but that’s not mobile housing is it?! I know one other thing, is that when we go this venture, I am going to have to get an interstate HR licence. I guess the upside to that is if I wanted to drive something else for a little bit I could always get a job with a transport company! Ha-ha!
Of course the other part of living on the road is going to include income sources, places to stop, and schooling for Izzy. Time to research a bit more and get Kel started on the chassis.
