What if the life of a person who is dear to youis suddenly taken away by the cold clutch of murder? In part four of the Masquerade series, Kasidy and Anette will be twisted into that situation that brings them closer as friends.
“It’s alright,” Kasidy smiled. “You don’t need to do that. I can find her myself.” he put his hand in his pocket(on his way Kasidy stopped at the jewelers and had them make a tiny gold ring with Christophel’s name engraved in it). “I’ve got something to give her.”
“Of course,” said Mr. Jonas. “If you go up the stairs, her room is on the far left.” Kasidy bowed, then headed up the stairs.
It came to him, that this was the first time seeing Anette since they met at the House. He combed his hair with his fingers, then knocked on the door. And then, like all of Kasidy’s dreams came true, the Swedish countess appeared!
“Kasidy!” As if the whole world evolved around them, Anette suddenly threw her arms around Kasidy. He stood there for what seemed like eternity, breathing in the sweet smell of her perfume, playing with strands of her hair. Nothing else seemed to be going on, for it seemed to Kasidy that all time stopped………
“I’m sorry,” said Kasidy. “I’m so sorry.”
“Kass, I feel so bittersweet…..” “Dido,” he said. “But I have something to make you feel better.”
“What-whats that?” Kasidy put the ring on her finger. “He’ll be with you always.” Anette’s grief stricken face suddenly was filled with a streak of somber joy.
“I don’t have any words for you,” Anette fingered her ring. “I thank you, very much. I-” she trailed off, signing and closing her eyes. “…..Christophel was so close to my heart, Mr. Caldwell……he’ll be with me forever.” Kasidy smiled. “Come on, Kasidy,” Anette said.
The young earl asked in puzzlement: “Why, whatever do you mean, miss?” “My brother.” Anette headed to the stairs, and Kasidy took her hand. “Lets go visit him, Kasidy.” Kasidy nodded and smiled, and led Anette downstairs as if going to a masquerade ball .
