A bit of news that both excites and saddens me. Just one man’s opinion.

Since childhood I have been a huge fan of Batman.  Whereas all the other comic books I read revolved around people who, due to a wide variety of reasons, were either born with or developed superhuman abilities he was  just an ordinary orphan -with unlimited financial backing- that was able to make a difference.

Unfortunately though I was always disappointed by the big screen adaptations.  That is until 2005 When Christopher Nolan gave us Batman Begins.  With the use of KFM as the new combat style this movie not only excited the geek in me but also the martial artist.  The new look he gave Batman, the villains and the whole of Gotham was exactly what, I thought, was needed all along.

So you can imagine my excitement when I opened my browser this morning and had my first view of the the villain for his third installment. Since 2008 I, as many fanboys, have been discussing and contemplating who would be the next villain and was not disappointed by the decision.  How apt that his final contribution would be Bane, AKA The man who broke the bat.

For those who haven’t read the comics Bane is a hyper intelligent villain in peak physical condition who was raised in the prison system and whose natural strengths are enhanced by an experimental drug known as Venom.  For those who have read the comics you may be happy to know that, it seems, Bane will be portrayed in exactly this way and not the simple brute that has been the norm since his jump from paper to film in the past.

I will be sad to see Nolan leave the Batman movies behind but I will also remain hopeful that he has set a standard now for future directors of this franchise.
