Prophecy

“One who is pure and bears the mark shall bring forth the ways of old. The pure one will know great suffering before the light reveals the truth. The passions of the dark, the pure one will taste. The pure one comes forth to lead. To succeed in this, the pure one must, or all is lost.” …ancient druid prophesy; author lost to the mists of time.

It has been said that during the last battle for Camelot, King Arthur and his son Mordred fought a fearsome battle where both were mortally wounded. As he lay dying, Arthur bade Lancelot, once his trusted friend and knight of the Round Table, to return Excalibur to the Lady of the Lake. Lancelot honored this last request. After the sword was returned to the Lady of the Lake, Merlin and those who possessed the power of the Goddess faded into the mists of time.

Centuries passed. The power of the Goddess and Merlin’s adventures have all but faded into legend. That is until a girl child, born of pure blood, with the mark of the Goddess was born. With this birth, a stirring of the old ways awakened the ancient powers of others. The child lived a normal life, until the day her parents died. On that day, dark forces were released and gathered strength to engulf the light  …historical excerpt from the Twenty-first Century Druidic Society, Gwyneth Astral Pearce- Priestess and Keeper of the Histories.

Loss

Clouds hung low and heavy over the grave site. Friends and family had gathered to pay their respects and to mourn their loss. After the eulogy had been given and the minister said his final words, the mourners filed passed the young woman standing at the head of the casket. Tall, slight of build, she stood stoically fighting back the tears and sorrow that threaten to burst forth. She bowed her head, more for hiding her shame at what had happened, than respect for the dead.

“My deepest sympathies….”

“If there is anything we can….”

“They were good parents. It’s a shame….”

She heard every word the mourners said, but none of it truly registered in her mind. Nothing but the sight of her parents falling into the flames filled her mind. Flames she unknowingly conjured up when she attempted to use a spell she found in one of her aunt’s old musty books. She didn’t believe in magic, so what harm would come from reading the spell. Well she found out much too late.
