Chapter 2: The Silver-Tongued Leader
Alonzo followed the Guard closely, keeping out of his line of sight. The nameless assassin turned occasionally, as he felt followed. He eventually dismissed the thought that he was being followed, and made his way to the Sistine Chapel.
Alonzo used all tactics that were taught to him, from free-running to performing quick maneuvering techniques, and followed as closely as he could. They eventually arrived at the Chapel, and the guards at the gate did not suspect the assassin. They were given orders to allow all guards in, regardless of whether they were in their groups. There was trouble for Alonzo though. He was unable to enter the gates, and he lost sight of the guard. However, he did not lose hope. He climbed over the gates, over the guards, and successfully got in. He watched from the scaffolding in the church, as it was undergoing renovation. He tried to find the guard he was following, but the nameless assassin had not gotten to the room he was in yet. He was able to see the pope, who was reciting the Nicene Creed in Latin. He then saw a guard enter the room. The guard was none other that the same nameless assassin he had been following. The guard removed his armour immediately, staying out of sight, then, as agile as a Monkey, he made his way up the same scaffolding Alonzo was on, since Alonzo had hidden himself amongst the crowd, and he leaped off the tip of the scaffolding, daggers drawn and prepared to assassinate the Pope. However, the pope had forseen this attempt, and swiftly moved out of the way. The Papal Guards Immediately moved forward, and surrounded the assassin. He was trapped, no where to run to, and his daggers were too short to effectively protect him. Alonzo saw this, and quickly took out his knives, and killed the guards from the crowd. The pope had not foreseen the coming of Alonzo, but he was elated by the thought of being able to capture the two deadliest assassin’s of Europe.
Alonzo moved swiftly, grabbed the arm of the assassin, then started running. As they were running away, Alonzo said to the assassin, “You’re pretty good. I’ve been watching you for awhile now. Talk less, we have a great distance to cover. Follow my lead!” Without hesitation, the assassin followed Alonzo and the made their way out of the Sistine Chapel. Borgia’s personal assassins, chased them as they were heading to the assassin’s hideout. They were able to shake the assassins off, but in the process they had broken the first tenet of the Creed, Never take an innocent life. 2 Civilians were killed, and all their pursuers had been shaken off. The twosome then made their way to the assassin’s hideout, which was located nearby.
