Salvation’s Downfall

“It was the year three thousand and twenty three. Earth is a wasteland. Humanity’s abuse of nuclear power had finally gone too far. Countries such as Russia, Canada, India, Iran, the UK, China, the Koreas, and the USA no longer exist, and without them, the rest of the underdeveloped countries fell as well. World War III was the last world war, after the nuclear winters, the world would never be at war again. Not everyone perished though. Some scattered peoples lived on. They eventually fled to the two ends of the Earth. The only places completely untouched by radiation. The North Pole and the South Pole.

Those that fled to the south, brought along technology, and equipment to assist with life at the coldest, harshest region in the world. They built a great dome and developed an operating city. It had homes, electricity, jobs, and currency. The city was called, Salvation, because that’s what it was, Salvation, to everyone that lived in it, and to everyone who was rescued from the outside. Every five years, fifty men from Salvation would embark upon a grueling expedition in search for survivors, small pockets of people who could be brought to Salvation, the last human city. These men were called the Knights of Salvation, they not only helped to keep the order in Salvation, but they brought Salvation to those in need. It was a most prestigious honor to be a knight. However, some years, when the knights went out in search of survivors, they didn’t come home.

The North men, on the other hand, were nomadic. They hunted with spears, bows and arrows, and used traps. In a way they were just as sophisticated as the citizens of Salvation. They were able to live off of the land, but it was the Arctic Circle, so their survival there had to account for something.
