Sandra Ball is a young actress who’s career was propelled by appearances in two spy thriller movies. As the result of an accident she is injured, trapped, and alone in a wooded area. She is rescued but faces a shattered career and a vastly altered life. Will that life be cut short by men more dangerous than the spies she faced on the screen?

Joan walked with her to the cab. “Please remember your need to be discrete about your patients. Share it with the other nurses, the ones you can trust.”

The young woman smiled. “I understand. I have been quizzed by the studio before about her care, whom she sees, what she says to them. Like Sergeant Shultz, I know nothing. And I know they can’t figure out where she hid the papers she wanted to keep.” She laughed, “They didn’t think to look in the bible. What I know is not mine to pass on. You’re a nurse, you know. As horrible as the thought of loosing a leg or worse, both legs, I think our patient would have been better served by a DAK amputation the day she was rescued. She would be without two legs but she would be healthy.”

“The surgery scheduled in our hospital that night was explore, evaluate and amputate if necessary. She would probably have been a DAK before midnight. The studio flew her out. I understand there is some insurance on the picture.”

“I hope we don’t kill her trying to save her legs. God knows we came close twice. But the doctors at the hospital are not making the decisions, the studio is and I think the lawyers are driving the decisions.”

The cab pulled up, she got in and they pulled away.

Sunday morning and afternoon was a fun time. Toward evening they returned Sandra to the hospital. Jim, Joan and Amanda headed home with Harry and Dora in the RV. Before she got out of the RV Amanda gave Harry a big hug and kissed his cheek. “Thanks so much.”

“What kind of lies was he telling you?” Dora asked.

“They weren’t lies, they showed me how great a dad I have.”

“It’s probably the first time he told the truth in thirty years.”

“He got me to see the truth.”
