They construct the initial equipment and start testing.
It took two months to create the first portion, a small device to record nerve impulses. It took another six months of recording impulses and six more to construct the first crude device to play them. Until the first successful playback they could not be sure the recording was successful.
Six months ago they had shrunk the recording devices small enough to be worn full time. Till then they could only record impulses when the subject, initially the two of them, could be connected to the larger recorder. The sixteen gig chip in the device could store about one week of impulses. The library now contained nearly six months of data from the two recorders that Rachel and Sandy were now wearing nearly full time. The events were identified, catalogued and stored on disk drives in their homes that were mirrored. This meant that as soon as data was added to one computer it was copied to the other computer over the internet so they could both have access to it. It was also mirrored on a drive set up at Rachel’s brother’s home. With the time they had invested in this database they were not willing to take chances it could be lost.
The playback device was initially the size of a purse but over time it was shrunk to a size and form that could be worn full time. As they worked nine more patents piled up, six of which were already bringing in money for them and Medtech.
The week after the large version of the player was functional the two women enlisted two more test subjects. Their boyfriends were given recorders. Four pickup pads were placed on their backs near the spine and two more above their groin. They were connected to the recorder that was superglued to their lower belly. They were each given a cable and a box to connect to their home wireless network. Each night they were to connect a cable to the device to charge it and download the data. The charger would transfer it to the computers at the girls’ homes.
