Chapter 12

“Are you sure you want to do this,” Quinn asked as they walked across a field toward the big red barn in the evening sunset.

“Let’s see what it’s like before I say I’m sure.” Quinn smiled and put his arm around her waist. When they reached the barn, Quinn looked around to make sure no one was around and then slowly opened the barn door. He looked in to see a barn full of hay. He opened the door wider for Kayla to see.

“What do you think,” he asked.

“I think it will be all right since we brought this blanket. That straw looks like it would be pretty uncomfortable.”

As they entered the barn Quinn looked up to see a ladder leading up to the loft. He pointed at it and moved toward it holding Kayla’s hand. He started up the ladder and looked around when he got to the top. There were several bales of hay and a lot of loose straw. He climbed up and motioned for Kayla to join him. She climbed up with the blanket over her shoulder. When she almost reached the top, Quinn reached out and helped her up. He moved to the wall of the loft and opened a small door and looked out. “Come here and look at this view. It’s beautiful.” Kayla shuffled through the straw to where Quinn was standing. She stood looking out the door at the sun setting over a pond with a big tree by it. It looked like a photograph on a calendar or a postcard. The sky was streaked with pink and orange clouds and the air was warm. The birds were singing. It was a perfect day. Quinn stood close behind Kayla and wrapped his strong arms around her and kissed her neck softly.

“Alone at last he said in a low seductive voice.” Kayla turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck, gazed into his eyes and slowly teased his lips with hers by placing her lips close to his but not touching them. He moved closer to touch his lips to hers but she backed away teasingly. “You tease.” Quinn joked and then pulled her tight against him and pressed his lips to hers and explored her mouth with his. Kayla’s heart pounded with excitement and anticipation. His kiss seemed even more ardent than usual, yet he was still as gentle with her as always.
