Kayla meets Quinn’s family. Quinn and Kayla get a big surprise.
They arrived at Quinn’s parent’s house about seven o’clock Friday evening. “Quinn, I have to admit, I’m a little nervous about meeting your parents,” Kayla said when they pulled up in the driveway. It was a big two story brick house, with brown and beige trim. And it overlooked a beach.
“Don’t be intimidated because of the house,” he said.
“It’s not the house, I’m just afraid that they won’t like me.”
“Why wouldn’t they like you?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Do they know about our age difference?”
“Yes, I told them already.”
“What did they say?”
“They’re excited about meeting you. Really they’re pretty down to earth people, I think you’re gonna like them and I know they’re gonna like you. Don’t worry,” he said putting his arms around her and comforting her for a minute.
“Come on, it won’t be as bad as you imagine.”
“Okay, I guess I’m as ready as I’ll ever be,” she said taking a deep breath.
They walked up to the front door and rang the bell and then Quinn opened the door and stuck his head in and said, “Is anyone home?”
“Quinn!” a woman with dark, gray streaked hair exclaimed as she came down the hall from the living room. “We didn’t’ expect you until tomorrow,” she said as she hugged him.
“Yeah I know, but I figured we could spend more time together if we came tonight.” She was a couple of inches shorter than Quinn and had the same electric blue eyes that he had. “Mom, I want you to meet Kayla, my fiancée,” he said proudly. “Kayla, this is my mom, Annie.” Kayla held out her hand to shake Annie’s hand but she didn’t move and her expression was unreadable. Kayla suddenly felt a little awkward. “I’m not going to shake hands with my soon to be daughter-in-law,” Annie exclaimed. “Give me a hug,” she said with a sudden big smile. “We’re going to start this relationship off right!” And she hugged Kayla.
“So you’re the young woman that finally captured my preacher son’s heart! I’m so happy to finally meet you! Come on in here and meet Quinn’s dad.” She took them both by the hand and pulled them toward the living room, where Quinn’s dad sat in his easy chair watching television.
