‘I will be in my bed when I open my eyes. I will be in my bed when I open my eyes. I will be in my bed when I open my eyes.’ She kept repeating this over and over in her mind. She opened her eyes. She was still in the kitchen. She looked down at herself and shook her head in disgust. Oh how she wanted so much to reach up and squeeze hard on her oversized breasts, but she was still a ten year old girl. She swore then and there she had to quit calling her breasts, oversized.
This irritated her so much, that she didn’t feel the fear as much. She thought of that old adage where one says they didn’t realize how much they loved something until it was gone. Her friends would surely get a laugh out of this.
She shook herself hoping to clear her head. Then she stared at the back door. She felt this was the best way to leave the house. She checked the cloak. It covered her completely, but the sheerness didn’t stop anyone from seeing her naked under it.
She walked to the back door and took a long deep breath before she opened it and stepped out.
She was not in the back yard. She turned back to the house and it was not there. This sent a weird shiver through her.
There she stood out in the middle of nowhere with only a few stars to give her any light. The ground was hard with rocks all about of various sizes. Walking wasn’t easy because when she stepped on a little rock, it had points on it that hurt her feet. She felt herself compelled to go in a certain direction. She had no idea why. Something about going up hill felt right. Anytime she stumbled her heart quickened. She wanted to be quiet and any sound that was made her feel that she would get the attention of whatever was lurking out there.
The night air started getting a chill in it. The sheer cloak wasn’t enough to hold the chill off of her. Suddenly she stumbled down into a ravine and lay on the cold ground as her foot throbbed a little. She was about to get up and climb out when she heard a car coming. Her heart nearly jumped up into her throat when the headlights exposed her.
The care just passed on. Then another car came up the road. Skye followed the little ravine up to where the cars were parked. There were about six vehicles there with people working in front of them by the headlights. She quickly went up and crouched behind a truck hoping to better see what was going on. They were setting up a tent. All the men and women working on it were wearing black robes. It didn’t take long for them to get it set.
Once they were done, several of them walked further away from the parked cars. A few stayed by the tent as they watched some men walk back to the cars. Skye felt she was in the wrong place. One of them was headed right toward her. She was afraid to move to another car since the others were heading to different ones. She was about to crawl under the truck when someone grabbed her arm, “This one is trying to get away!”
