Too late, too late… She closed her eyes and furrowed her eyebrows at the pulse beating against her temples. Now it is really too late, now you have to let go, she thought to herself… The horizon dimmed to a swirl of orange and purple, and the chilling wind blew her hair across her face.
The TL swerved around the corner and stopped precisely in front of the restaurant. He stepped out as the door flashed close. Jogging slightly, he pulled open the restaurant door and took his sunglasses off as he walked. A few heads turned to look at him. He shoved his hands into the dark jeans and avoided eye-contact with all except for one. The one who had not noticed him walking in.
Her auburn hair draped loosely over her shoulders as she bent down to pull up her backpack. He walked to her and stood there silently, amused, waiting for her to lift her head. She gasped when she saw him and quickly looked around.
“Taylor, you’re here!” she whispered.
“Yes, like I said I was going to be,” he narrowed his eyes.
“But,” she checked her watch, “you’re 10 minutes early.”
“I’m sorry. Aren’t you going to introduce me to your friends?” his signature grin flashed on.
She glared at him, and then turned to smile at her friends. “This is Taylor; he’s my friend,” she said deliberately. Taylor nodded his head at the girls.
“Korra, I didn’t know you had friends like that,” Kimmy nudged her.
“Why, is she a loser at school?” Taylor ruffled her hair before she could say anything to defend herself.
“I’d just stay away from her if I were you,” Jennifer tried to put on a serious face.
“You guys! Stop it,” Korra fished out fifteen dollars and slapped them onto the table. She stood up, said goodbye, and pulled Taylor away.
When they were outside, Taylor stopped in his tracks and looked at her in amusement. Korra pretended that she didn’t see, and continued to walk.
“Hey, come on, tell me why I would want to stay away from you,” he teased her. Korra snapped around and narrowed her eyes. He laughed and pulled her to the car.
“Come on, get in. I want to show you something.” He pulled open the door on the passenger side and closed it gently after her. Korra strapped on the seatbelt and waited as Taylor slipped in beside her. Curiousity was getting the better of her. Finally, she broke into a smile and asked sweetly where they were headed.
