Too late, too late… She closed her eyes and furrowed her eyebrows at the pulse beating against her temples. Now it is really too late, now you have to let go, she thought to herself… The horizon dimmed to a swirl of orange and purple, and the chilling wind blew her hair across her face.

“It’s true.  Some guy wasn’t pro enough to pass this curve and crashed into the mountain over there.” Taylor shrugged and pointed.

“And then?” Korra looked at him.

“And then what?”

“What happened to him?”

“He died.”

“What?!”

“What?” Taylor switched down the headlights.  Korra crossed her arms: just as she was beginning to enjoy this, he had to ruin it.  She sighed.

“OH SHIT, the police,” Taylor stepped on the brakes and brought the TL to a speed of 35 MPH as they passed the police car by.  The overweight policeman did not seem to notice anything wrong.

“Your mom said you got ticketed last month.  Where did that happen?”  Korra grinned, already beginning to know the answer.

“Uh… Right here.  I don’t know why the police always hide out over here.”  Taylor grimaced and shook his head.  “Hey, I’ll never make the same mistake twice.”

Korra laughed.  The TL whooshed through the mountain route in light strokes.  Korra closed her eyes and concentrated on the gravity’s pull on her body.  She let go of all the fear and took in the fluttering feeling.  She wanted to cry for some strange reason that she herself did not even know.

A few minutes later, Taylor pulled into an open lot on the top of the mountain.  He turned off the engine and waited for it to cool before leaving the car.  It was almost completely dark outside.  Stars glimmered in the night sky like sprinkles on a cake and the overbearing moon shoon brightly on the opposite side.  Korra filled her lungs with the uncontaminated air and stretched out.

Taylor’s black hair seemed even darker at night.  He had really gotten tall.  She had only seen him once or twince in the past half a year, and now he looked different.  He was no longer the crazy little boy who smeared mud on her face.  Hard muscles took the place of baby fat… and he was a… man.

She strolled lightly to the railing that overlooked with glittering city.  The skyline was beautiful… They were not too high in elevation, but the horizon had already begun to curve.  She wondered how people could have thought that the Earth was flat.

A gust of wind breathed cold air through her bones.  She shivered and rubbed her arms with her palms.  Korra turned to look at him again.  But he was typing into his cell phone.  Kristine… She had forgotten about Kristine again.

Too late, too late… She closed her eyes and furrowed her eyebrows at the pulse beating against her temples.  Now it is really too late, now you have to let go, she thought to herself…  The horizon dimmed to a swirl of orange and purple, and the chilling wind blew her hair across her face.
