“Sounds complicated.” She said. “Think you can handle this car racer boy?”
“Start” I said. The engine jumped to life. I revved the engine and the entire car shook and torqued. Dixie grabbed on to the door handle for security. I pressed the radio button on my helmet. “Question is… can you handle it.”
CHAPTER 19, FORWARD UNTO DAWN…
I set my Ipod inside its mount and we exited the garage. We pulled out onto the empty street and drove away. We went through the city and hit the highway. We were heading back to Salt Lake along mostly I-80. Not five minutes before we entered the highway, a local patrol car turned on his lights and siren, attempting to pull us over. He came in over my radio. “Pull Over” he said.
Dixie came in over her radio, “Should we?”
“No.” I told her. I got back on my police radio “Stand down officer, this is ANHP Marshal Smokey. I should be in your computer, over.”
The officer pulled up behind me even closer in his Ford Crown Victoria, I had a bad feeling about this. We were in street mode going at speed limit, when the officer began to pull up into my passenger side blind spot. Oh yeah, this guy was after it, but I wasn’t about to make the first move.
The officer was going to try and pit me. He steered into my rear quarter panel, causing me to spin out. “Road Course, rear wheel drive” I sad as the car went sideways. I kept the car in a sideways drift, smoking my tires. I then corrected, going backwards. I shifted into second reverse. I saw the officer’s lights flash through the smoke. “Lights and siren on.” I said into the helmet.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Dixie shouted, not bothering to use the radio communicator.
“Engage passenger oxygen, fifteen liters. Show rear view camera.” My HUD flashed and the view on my screen switched to the camera that was behind me. This way I could drive better in reverse, dodging cars quite well. I was going at a slow speed of about sixty, so dodging traffic was a cinch. “Dixie, I have a feeling that getting you across the country isn’t going to be easy. I’m getting his license plate number. Lets show them who they are dealing with.
