They gave me a Hospital gown to put on. Dr. Charlston finished writing on his clipboard and said “Well, soon as your ready, we are going to operate.”
“Operate?” I said.
“Yes, to remove the bullet and shrapnel. Also to assess the damage to your bone and joint in your shoulder.”
I gulped. “Well, if you say so doc.”
They laid me on a fancy hospital bed, and another doctor came into the room. He was also wearing a white lab coat. He was a white guy, with salt and pepper black hair. “I’m your anesthesiologist,” he said. That was the last thing I remember.
I woke up in a fuzz. My eyes adjusted and Dixie was standing right next to my bed. “You awake racer boy?” she said with her soft voice. I groaned. I felt so foggy. Luckily I didn’t throw up like I usually would with anesthesia. “I’m… up” I squeaked out. My mouth was very dry. I slowly grew more aware, “How…long?” I asked.
“A full twenty four hours” She said. “They gave me a tour of the place its amazing. They said it was an old fallout shelter from the fifties that the government built. They remodeled the entire inside of it, it’s awesome.”
“Yeah.” I said. “Can’t wait to see.” I was coming out of my daze. I looked at my right shoulder, it was all bandaged up. Dr. Charlston walked into the room. “The operation was a success. I suspect a full healing in two or three weeks. There was no damage to the joint or bone. It was strictly a flesh wound. Don’t lift anything heavy until you see me then. Also, here is some ibuprofen, take these as you need for pain, and here is some antibiotic, take two every four hours in the day and once before bed until they are all gone. This will be your bedroom for the next three days or until you are fully healed. The nurses will take care of you.” He said.
