Follow the story of Treydon Austin (aka Smokey) as he chases down the cleverest, fastest, most uncatchable, most unmatchable members of The Bandit’s crime Syndicate as the government’s secret weapon against guys who are just too fast to catch. Check back every monday for the latest chapter to this fast paced action novel.
“Road Course Mode” I commanded.
The car rose to an acceptable ride height, but the spoilers remained. I pressed on the gas. I felt that limiter keeping me from doing a wheelie and my wheels planted on the salt. I started going fast, I had good acceleration, it just wasn’t ridiculous like drag mode. I cranked the wheel as far as I could, and the car pulled an almost perfect V shaped turn without loosing too much traction.
“Rear Wheel Drive” I said.
I turned the wheel reasonably and feathered the gas. I put the car in a drift and drifted quite a ways on the salt. I cranked the wheel the other way, and without any direction change I drifted the car with the other side. It was the perfect drift car, it practically drifted itself, I just had to tell it where to go. I spun a few donuts for some fun.
Chuck asked, “Can I have my oxygen back now?”
“Engage passenger oxygen, 15 liters. Front wheel drive.”
I stopped the car, I felt all 8 brakes working together in synchronicity to provide optimal stopping with the least amount of traction lost. Once the car was stopped, I put it in reverse. I accelerated in the first reverse gear, then I shifted to the second, then the third. I hit a hundred and fifty. I felt the auto adjusting aerodynamics even doing their job while I was in reverse.
“Physics Mode” I said. My HUD changed back to the aerial display of the car. My drag coefficient chart was weird. Each spoiler was doing its best to create lots of drag.
I quickly cranked the wheel all the way to the right, put the clutch in, and matched the third reverse gear with the sixth forward drive gear. It was like the entire car was working to make that J turn perfect. I only lost five miles an hour flipping around and going forward. That’s when I realized. The auto adjusting spoilers, they are producing lots of drag on specific sides of the car. When I did that J turn, the spoilers adjusted to let more air pass better on one side than the other, making the car turn more accurately.
