Chapter 14 This one is a short one.
“We can help each other!” She blurted.
I stopped dead in my tracks, shaking my head, my gaze was at the floor. I spoke softly with my back towards her…
“There isn’t any help for either one of us…..”
I turned around to face her.
“Take my advice for what it is worth to you, you want my advice listen close. You don’t want to dig into this world. I inherited it unwillingly and I don’t want it. There is a reason it was brought to my attention, and I plan to see it through. Think about it, don’t just go and subject your self to something so intense.”
We stared at one another for a few seconds, and before she could say anything I turned and walked away. The look on her face was a mix between curiosity and fear.
I walked back to the children’s area, Tiff and Johnny were just coming out from story time. On the way home Tiffany told me all about the story that was read to them, The Three Little Bears, Johnny interrupted as much as possible to tell me about the picture he had made and hung on the wall in the library. Normally I would have scolded him for interrupting, but my mind was in another place, so I just let them both rave on about their activities today.
When we got home. Mary seemed to be in a better mood than when we left.
“Well, look at that, you guys made it back just in time for dinner.”
Mary was just setting the table for dinner.
“Anything I can do to help my dear?”
I thought I would lend a hand.
“No, you go get washed up, everything will be set in just a few minutes. Take the kids with you.”
Compared to when we left, she was more up beat, she was her old self again. That made me smile.
