How would you feel if your best friend who lives just down the street got robbed? Would you be frightened? The Kendrill family was, and now are very worried about their safety. Spy Cat  is a mystery book which takes place in a new housing development, with many vacant houses and few people. With hardly anyone to be watchful here it would be a prime target for robberies. New neighbors of the Kendrills, Mary and her Grandmother, Mrs. Sunburg move in across the street. Alex and Benjie Kendrill, brothers, go to meet them. Then, one night, Pete the cat was sitting on the window ledge, and notices a strange red van in the driveway of Mary’s house, and a person coming in and out of the house loading objects into the van. Pete jumps on Alex, who was asleep, and then onto the window ledge again. Alex notices the van and attempts to go outside and try and get some characteristics of the people, but it was took dark, and the van drives away. A few days later, Alex and Benjie’s parents announce that they won’t be home when Alex and Benjie come home from school, so they tell them to go to Mrs. Sunburg’s house until they do come home. However, Benjie comes home before Alex, and forgets to go to Mrs. Sunburg’s house. When Benjie walks up to his house he notices an unfamiliar red van in his driveway. Thinking his mom has company, he quietly sneaks in through the back door. He pokes around a bit, and when he notices that things are missing, he realizes that he’s being robbed! The robbers were just about to take off, but Benjie notices that Pete the cat was in the van! He runs up to the van, and the robbers kidnap Benjie and throw Pete out the window!
