Ghosts of the past.
“There’s more to it then that.” Mike said. “The Sslisk have an interest in killing me as well. In fact I think they want to kill all of the decedents of Blackmore. My cousin told me that out of all the people on his ship’s crew he was the only one that they targeted to be killed. The captain of the Tiamat made sure that none of the crew was hurt but told his top enforcer to find and kill him.”
“How do you know that they’re after Blackmore’s?” Saben asked. “I know that your mother was a Blackmore and that Juan Cohen is your aunts son but you can’t be the only Blackmore’s out there. What about the other families?”
“There are only five lines that are descended from the Blackmore line.” Mike said. “The Cohen, the Dàj, the Blackmore, the Tènohar and the Veraden. There are roomers that one more family is out there. A lost family descended from Constantine Blackmore himself. The Maratar could only be on one planet if they still exist at all and that planet is still under quarantine. The only way that quarantine will be dropped is if the Sslisk move against it.”
“The lost colony of Estern?” Saben said. “That system has been under lock and key for a thousand years but there are ways to get into it.”
“You mean the illegal mining colony near the largest planet in the system?” Mike grinned looking at Saben’s shocked look. “I’ve known about that the Dwarves have had a mining colony in the Estra system for some time Saben. They have been here for almost one hundred years. Every smuggler and pirate in the galaxy knows they’re there.”
“So you know they’re there but I have to tell you that the colony isn’t illegal.” Saben smirked. “They made a deal with the Alliance that they would leave the planet alone and watch the system for the Alliance as long as they can mine the moons and the asteroid belt. They make sure that the Sslisk and any being that might want to corrupt them. The last report they gave on the Sslisk was fifty years ago and then it was just a short pop in and then back out.”
Mike nodded. “Then I guess that whoever I’m related to there is safe for now but I think I need an update when I can get it. Now I think we need to go meet the others.”
“Did you see their ship?” Saben said turning to look.
“No.” Mike smiled. “I’m psychic remember. I can feel Jones and Naden. You think you would remember that the three of us had a bond that allowed us to always know what we were planning before we did it. I sometimes forget that you don’t have that.”
“It’s not my fault that Tero aren’t psyonicly sensitive.” Saben laughed. “Let’s go get the others.”
