Extra Chapter in the book Stepping On The Cracks.

Chapter 29

After Elizabeth went home, I trudged home with sorrow in my heart. Opening the door, I realized there was no one home. The empty silence was everywhere as I poured myself a glass of milk. I drank it down with many questions. Where were Mother and Daddy? Why did they leave? Why didn’t they tell me?

I was nervous, and I wanted to keep my mind on something, so I did my homework.

“Maybe long division will keep my mind off all of this”, I said to nobody. Maybe by the time I was done with my homework, Mother and Daddy will be home.

By the time I was done with my homework, Mother and Daddy still weren’t home, so I turned on the radio.

“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men-“, I turned the radio off. The last thing I needed now was The Shadow coming to get me.

Trudging up the stairs, I flung myself onto my bed. I was scared, and I had to keep myself occupied. My eyes fell upon my scrapbook, with all of Jimmy’s pictures inside of it. Then I glanced at my bookcase, and pulled out a Nancy Drew book. The Case of the Missing Flower Pot, the cover read. It was one of the books Where Nancy and The Hardy Boys team up to solve the mystery.

“This was Jimmy’s favorite book,” I said.

A tear fell down my cheek, and it landed on the book. I couldn’t read this anymore. It held to many memories.
