Chapter 4 – The Dreamer

I’m walking in the darkness, not able to see anything except for the moon, the stars and vague outlines of trees and buildings. I look around and all of the streetlights are atop of the park benches. I believe that I can see my vague outline as I am walking up to the dorms. I decide not to try to take any shortcuts through fields and such to get there faster. As I am walking up to it  can first see only the top floor. there are just a few lights on across the entire length of the building. I can now see the second to top floor, mine being just two below, and the same description applies. It is very odd for everyone to be asleep this early early on a Saturday night. I can now see the third floor, and every light was turned on. Not one was absent from this. Strait across, every light on that floor was on. It looked very strange. As I got closer I could feel the deep and loud bass beat pounding through my entire body, emanating from the air. I had a long day and just wanted to sleep and there was a party going on, but one floor above me. I contemplated how horrific the ridiculing would be if I were caught being friends with a teacher. If anybody had a relationship with a teacher, it was a well established rule that both the teacher and the student are permanently expelled from Oxford. I can see the whole dorm now, all of the other floors just the same as the top two and mine. I went to the front door and walked by a small group of about six smokers.
“You wanna smoke?” the shady guy asked in a very low key tone.
“No man, I don’t” and yet again I was interrupted for the third time today.
“You sure? I got one just freshly lit man”
The next guy asks “You want a hit?” He hands me a piece of what looks like white paper twisted around to a point and the other, wider end has got a hot ember on the end. The smell was intense, very nice, and almost a fruity like smell to it. I could smell it a hundred yards away because of it’s potency.
I stood there basking in the smell and came back to earth from a mile high. I hit hard. “I gotta pass,” I say, mostly because I don’t want to be kicked out of the school for usage of illicit drugs. “Maybe next time,” I say, knowingly full well that there is never going to be a next time and that my answer will remain the same for years to come, just as it has for years past, all the way through high school.
The junkie just stands there in shock, as if nobody had ever said no thank you to that question. I continue in on through the door into the drab hallway. They were all the same. plain red carpeting, white when you enter a dorm, and beige walls all throughout. Although some rooms had a bit of a yellow tint, due to the fact that the resident most likely didn’t respond well to the no smoking in the dormitories rule. I walk up the stair well to my floor. With each step that I took the hip hop and rap was felt deeper and deeper. I could feel it in my very bone. All of the cells that made up my body were quaking with fear for they didn’t know what was going on. I get to my floor. Now the rumbling is even affecting how strait I can walk. I enter the hallway and I continue down. The lights on the walls were shaking and vibrating. I make it to my door and put my school bag on the floor. I pull out my old clothes, two empty water bottles, and a ring of keys. I fumble the keys looking for the correct one whilst shaking relentlessly. I found the key, opened the door, and turned on the light. I looked around and everything was just slightly out of place. I throw my school bag in a corner and go back towards the door. I picked up my stuff threw it in with school bag. I lay down in my bed and can’t sleep.
I started thinking about everything that happened today. The professor and Aura. What is the professor planning. He had me put on the lead. lead can absorb radiation, so is what he is planning dangerous? I know he was talking about worm holes and the fourth dimension, but he couldn’t make a worm hole generator. He himself said that it could not be done. It would require too much energy.
Than there is Aura. She is smarter than me, a lot faster than me, better looking than me for sure, I know that because I look like a pile of crap in the mirror, she is more successful than me. She is just better than me in every way. How can I compete with that, not to mention that she is a teacher above all of that. I didn’t even give her a chance to tell me what she teaches. I feel like an ass hole now. I guess she was right.
I drift off into a half sleep world that can still be interacted with by the outside world, alarm set for 4:30 am and saying 11:00pm. The party upstairs isn’t going to be over for another two hours at minimum. My body couldn’t wait for their fun to be over. I fell asleep, regardless of the noise and feelings.
I am standing in the basement of the fusion reactor building. I look through the gargantuan hole in the machine that the professor created. I can see many cities through it, however they are far off in the distance. I look more closely only to realize that they are floating! They are also upside-down. I look broader and see that the sky is black and silverish gray. I can see that all of them were one giant complex web of structures in the sky. They seemed to encircle the planet. I look around and see that everywhere around the ground was devoid of life. The ground itself was almost on fire and the sky that was visible, was a dirty green and not a light, pleasant, blue. Then a person in a spacesuit, walking on earth with some sort of control device in his hands. All of a sudden a hundred robots roll over with treads like tanks. They all undergo a transformation. Half of them have shovels for arms and the other half has got large storage bins. the ones with shovels start digging with better efficiency than I have ever seen. In thirty seconds they were in a thirty foot diameter circle and four feet down. the ones that were storing the dirt ran over just far enough so that it wouldn’t pile into the hole. The man in the space suit looks at me through the machine, me still standing in the basement. I felt a moment of sheer terror all of a sudden. He started toward the basement. The professor shut it off. I can see him mouthing words, but i cannot hear him. Three shadows of people stand there between me and him. I can’t see their faces. They are talking to the professor and the tallest looks as if he is yelling. The professor looks frightened.
