Chapter 4

“OK, I have to sit at the controls; you girls sit back-to-back right behind me. It’s a little noisy, like I said. I just wanted to point that out so you won’t get too startled. Now get ready for the time of your life, you girls are about to do something that only I have ever done, are you ready?” “We’re ready” said the girls.

Elwynn set the controls and pushed the lever, “here we go.” They could hear the wheel inside the round case next to begin to turn and turn very quickly. Soon sparks began to shoot out the side of the machine and it began to levitate, and whoosh, they were traveling at an incredible rate of speed every thing was distorted and blurry; they couldn’t really see anything of distinction. Next thing they knew the noise was winding down and they were in this field with a group of thick brush and trees near by. The wheel began to slow down and then it stopped. Well we’re here; the date is Sunday June 30th 1776. What did you think of the ride? Kellie said: “it was incredible! And a little weird. I didn’t quite know what to expect.” “Yeah it was groovy man” said Potnie. “Groovy? I didn’t know anybody still said that” said Elwynn. “Some times she just says weird things” said Kellie. “Well you don’t want to be too predictable, do you?” said Potnie. “Well, besides groovy, what else did you think?” said Elwynn. “Well it didn’t take near as long as I thought it would” said Potnie. “Well that sounds pretty groovy to me” said Elwynn.

“It’s hard to believe we’re actually here. By the way, where are we exactly?” asked Potnie. “Well we’re just outside of Philadelphia.” “Philadelphia?” said Potnie. “Yes why, where did you think we were going?” said Elwynn. “Oh I just assumed it would have been Washington DC” said Potnie. “Ah common mistake at the time of our claiming independence Washington DC did not exist yet. I can’t exactly remember when it came into existence or became our capital but I know it was after the revolutionary war.” “Oh,” said Potnie, “I guess there’s a lot to learn.” “There’s a lot for me to learn too,” said Elwynn. “Don’t forget me” said Kellie. Elwynn just chuckled a little.
