Chapter 7
The sun broke through the window and warmed Elwynn’s face until he woke up. Today was the forth of July, it seemed odd not to hear the sound of fire works but there wasn’t a cause to celebrate yet and today was the day. Better get the girls up. It was quite easy to wake the girls they were as excited as he was. “Today is the day we will be celebrating for centuries to come, are you excited?” “Oh yes” said Kellie. “You better believe it” said a very enthusiastic Potnie. “Well I’ll go down and see about breakfast while you girls get ready.” Ok we’ll be down in a minute.
Elwynn walked down the stairs and the place was a buzz. As he came down he could hear they were talking about the Declaration meetings and the pending war. He heard one of the boarders, Mr. Pendleton say: “I hear they are close to an agreement and are going to make an announcement soon.” Just then Elwynn came down the stairs. “Oh Mr. Jacobs are you and the girls alright? said Mrs. Sanders. “Yes yes they are fine, they’ll be down in a minute and thanks for everything Mrs. Sanders.” “Oh you’re quite welcome, I’m glad you and the girls are alright.” “Thank You, umm breakfast smells wonderful.” Well sit down and I’ll get you some.” Just then the girls came down the stairs. Mrs. Sanders stopped and said: “Oh how are you little darlings feeling?” “Oh we’re just fine” said Kellie “and thanks for everything last night.” They each gave her a hug. “Oh you’re so welcome, sit down and I’ll get some breakfast.” Thank you they said.
“Well Mr. Jacobs I heard you and the girls had quite an exciting day yesterday” said Mr. Pendleton. “Yes, excitement like that I could do without but everything is fine.” “Glad to hear it.” They sat and ate breakfast and had a very pleasant conversation.
Soon they were there, they didn’t have any problems getting in and they quickly took their seats in the back row. They watched as the rest of the Continental congressman came in and soon John Hancock came in and took his seat at his desk in the front. “Mr. Jacobs it’s good to see you and the girls did you have a good day yesterday?” “Yes sir we did indeed.” “Wonderful, I would also like to introduce Mr. John Trumbull who will sit off to the side to do a painting of this most important day. “Now to bring the meeting to order Mr. John Adams would you like to start this meeting with a word of prayer?” “Indeed I would.” He delivered a most marvelous prayer and the final day had begun, or should I say the first day of a very long and important war that would begin the greatest nation on earth.
