Young readers – Fiction, two young girls meet Elwynn who has a time machine and takes them on an adventure of a lifetime. Back to witness the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Chapter 8

As Elwynn started walking over to the house he began to think. Based on the recent events should we stay? I don’t know if I would take this opportunity again. I mean if the girls decide to go back, sure I could come back. But it just wouldn’t be the same without the girls, I suppose I could come back on August 2nd for the signing party but they would probably wonder where I had been for the past month, No I think if the girls want to go back that should be the end of it.

Before he knew it he was at the house. He looked at the empty house and then pulled out his wallet. Well if we do stay I will definitely need to get some more money and how would I tell them how I got the money. He would definitely wait to cross that bridge when and if it came. Oh my, he suddenly thought I’d better go see if Betsy is actually there. Panic began to creep in as he ran out in the back yard and headed to the shed. As he got to the shed he whisked the door open. He let out a great sigh of relief as Betsy starred at him. I had better look her over to make sure everything is ok. I know I’ll run a diagnostics test to be sure all the systems are alright.

As he sat in the seat the girls suddenly came in. “Oh girls, there you are so what have you decided?” “Well it didn’t take us long to reach a decision, because we both want to stay if it’s ok with you” said Kellie. Elwynn was more overjoyed then he thought he would be. “Ah that’s wonderful, I wasn’t sure how much I really wanted to stay until you just gave me your answer.” The girls jumped up and down and squealed as little girls do and said we were hoping you would want to stay. Then Kellie said: “I know it’s been said before but when would we ever get another opportunity like this ever again and we are just having the most wonderful time.” The girls ran over to Elwynn and gave him a hug, thanks Elwynn. Elwynn gave them a big giant hug back and said “no thank you girls it has been such a wonderful trip, one I’ll never forget.” “Well why don’t you girls run along and play, I’ve got to check out Betsy to make sure she is tip top.” OK they said as they ran out.
