Young readers – Fiction, two young girls meet Elwynn who has a time machine and takes them on an adventure of a lifetime. Back to witness the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Potnie ran over to the door, “wow you can’t even tell there’s a door there, that’s amazing.” “Are you really surprised by what Elwynn can do?” Potnie laughed a little, “No I guess not really. I hope we see him soon.” “Me too” said Kellie. “I guess we better get back.” “Yeah I guess so” said Potnie. “How are we ever going to enjoy the rest of our vacation, I mean how can it hold a candle to the trip we just had” said Kellie. “Well I’m sure we’ll enjoy the rest of our trip, but it’s going to take some time.”
They walked back to the camp and there were their parent’s busy taking down the tents and packing the RV. The girls came running up, Mom dad, and they gave them each a big hug. They missed their parents a little more than they thought. Mrs. Johnson said: “My goodness you act like you haven’t seen me in a month of Sundays. “Oh I just felt like giving you a big hug.” “Well there’s nothing wrong with that, now help us get the RV all packed up so we can head to the Grand Canyon.” “OK” said the girls.
Soon everything was all loaded and the camp site was in tip top shape. They made sure they didn’t leave any trash and that the fire was completely out and they were off. Kellie and Potnie went to the back of the RV and watched out the window. All of a sudden they saw Elwynn, he waved to the girls. They were all excited and waved very enthusiastically back until Elwynn was out of sight. The girls turned to each other and Potnie said “that was cool.” “Yeah, I’m going to Miss Elwynn.” “Me too.” The girls were a little tired; after all they had a pretty good day already. So they lay down and took a little nap.
They continued on with the rest of their vacation and as time went on they grew more excited about it all. The Grand Canyon really was grand and they had a wonderful time with their parents. Before they knew it they were back at home and it was life as usual. They couldn’t wait till they saw Elwynn again and wondered what kind of adventure they would enjoy next. They had time to think of another time and place to which they would go.
