Young readers – Fiction, two young girls meet Elwynn who has a time machine and takes them on an adventure of a lifetime. Back to witness the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

They got busy and straightened up the house and got everything ready. They went to the bank and inquired about the orphanage and the banker was quite impressed and he thought that was a lovely idea. They took care of all the paper work, Elwynn didn’t want to contact them he just wanted it to be anonymous. They decided to leave the buckboard there at the bank and to just walk back to the house. Elwynn wanted to go to the general store to look at a few things. He wanted to buy each of the girls a little broach as a remembrance of their trip. So they each picked out a broach and thanked Elwynn for his wonderful generosity. As they walked out of the store Elwynn asked: “Are you girls ready to go back home to your families?” Kellie said: “I guess so, it’s all been such an incredible time it’s hard to leave.” Potnie said: “I really like this time period, I mean I miss some of the stuff that make our lives so much easier but life is so much simpler here. I don’t know maybe after a while I might get bored but I’ve had such a great time and I’m sad to see it end.” Elwynn gave the girls a big hug and said: “I’m really going to miss you girls.” They just hung on to Elwynn not wanting to let go. Elwynn said: “Well we better get going and get on back.”

So they started walking back to the house. The girls got on either side of Elwynn and they each held his hand as they walked. They got to the house and Elwynn said: “we better make a quick walk through to make sure we haven’t left anything here that doesn’t belong here. Like the empty plastic bottles of water that I brought back and stuff like that. Could you imagine if they came in and found an empty plastic bottle; that could be bad, very bad. “And how” said Potnie.

So they took a look around and everything seemed to be in order. “Well let’s go to the shed and fire up old Betsy and get on back.” SO they headed to the shed. Elwynn gave Betsy the once over, set the controls for one minute from the time they originally left. The girls climbed aboard And sat in their seats. “Are you girls ready?” We’re ready they both said. “Ok here we go.” Elwynn pushed the lever forward and Betsy fired up and began to spark and sound very loud and whoosh they were off.
