The Adventures of Kellie and Potnie “The Time Machine”
Chapter 1
Kellie Johnson and Annabelle Livingston, who always went by her nick name Potnie, have lived next door to each other their whole lives. As a matter of fact they were born just a month apart and that was about ten years ago. Neither of them had any brothers or sisters, this made them as close as sisters and best friends. Their parents, Jason and Leslie Johnson and James and Kristi Livingston had a relationship with each other just as strong as their daughters, they were the best of friends; they had so much in common. They bought and moved into their houses within a couple months of each other, they each had one daughter and had very similar interests. They often socialized together and quite often, and they almost always took vacation together. They were as close as two families could be.
They lived in a small Midwestern town, you know the type. A town where crime wasn’t an issue, people generally knew one another, there are always the type of people who just want to keep to themselves but as a community they were always there for one another. Like if someone’s barn burned down. The community would get together and pitch in to help rebuild it. Not like the big cities of today where neighbors just really don’t know one another but like it was long ago. When you didn’t have to lock your doors at night; or you didn’t have to be afraid to walk home from the movies at night. You know just a great place to raise a family and a great place to live.
Well now school had been out for a whole two weeks now and the excitement was beginning to fade. It was getting harder and harder to find something to do. But no matter how boring it might get it was still better than being in school. But the children were pretty imaginative and resourceful when it came to finding something to occupy their time. For instance, they spent most of their time in this incredible tree house that both Kellie and Potnie’s dads had made. I mean this just wasn’t your average tree house. It was very well constructed and about the only thing it didn’t have was hot and cold running water. They often spent the night up in the tree house without the worry you might have if it were in the big city. Time seemed to sort of stand still in this small community and they worked very hard at staying close to one another and keeping crime to a bare minimum.
