A Triond writer suggested expanding my story to something more then what I originally wrote. This is my attempt without losing the balance and humor of the first story. Hope my improved truck stop stories entertain you because I had fun writing them. Here is for you Tim!

The All Night Truck Stop Cafe II-expanded version

In the all night truck stop cafe,an assortment of truckers meet.

They pull in morning, noon, night and odd hours, all looking for

breakfast ,lunch, dinner and cup after cup of hot coffee. Some

just want to rest a bit while their oil is being checked and gas

tanks filled up.As soon as the mechanic yells its all done, they

pay their bill and back on the road they are on again.Hank

Williams is singing about your cheating heart while Patsy Cline

sings walking after midnight after that.Red Sovine sneaks in and

tells you about hillbilly heaven while you drive long miles trying

to stay awake.Patty Loveless makes you smile when 18 wheels

and a dozen roses is played for the 3rd time in 2 hours. You find

your self singing along with the radio station while driving to meet

a deadline that you will barely make.

*****

But back at the truck stop cafe, Maggie has her hands full with food

and more hot coffee. Pete is at the end of the table yelling for his glass

of iced tea while Brad yells back that a real truckers drinks only coffee.

All Pete could do is laugh and tell Maggie to bring him some coffee when

she gets the chance. But once the food is served and coffee cups are now

filled, Maggie knows she would not want to be anyplace but at the cafe.

The talk is loud and not very pleasant most of the time, but Maggie has

heard it all and and doesn’t care. The truckers now smoke their cigarettes

and tell stories that are on the borderline of unbelievable. Its up to the

listener to believe the truckers but most pay their bills shaking their heads

or laughing over a truckers tale.

****

Old Joe has drove trucks for over forty years and sen his fair share of things.

Joe is good for a story that will have you wondering if he is telling the truth. But

tonight Joe is stating a huge orb followed him as he drove his rig to the cafe.

I really loved that Payge and it certainly wasn’t too long for me. Those truckers had great stories to tell.

I don’t think this was too long. The picture really sets it off. Great work Ms. Payge!!

Love the long version too, Roxanne.
Would like being a trucker in the states—being able to escape onto the open road for weeks on end seems great.

Enjoy hearing the stories truckers have. They often describe themselves as the last cowboys.

there is some trucker saying breaker, breaker. My husband is a truck driver and I have also been on trips with him, that is how I can relate. Great story.
