A Triond writer suggested expanding my story to something more then what I originally wrote. This is my attempt without losing the balance and humor of the first story. Hope my improved truck stop stories entertain you because I had fun writing them. Here is for you Tim!

Titanic .She finally made it to port but she was only about 97 years late in making her

destination. This time the cook spoke up before anyone and told Tim it was lack of sleep

that made him see the ship as he handed Tim and a few others a fresh cup of coffee.

****

No one noticed the tall quiet stocky trucker in the corner until he had actually spoke up.

He said his name was Mathew Brown and new to the area and the cafe. Mathew told

us that he stopped in Wellington Forrest to catch some much needed shut eye before

traveling again. He must have been in a real deep sleep because he never heard any

thing happen for those few hours. But when he woke up Mathew said, A spider the size

of the table he was sitting at was on the hood of his truck. Considering the table was a

round table about 4 foot long, the truckers knew that was one huge spider if it existed at

all.Tim and a few other guys asked how he got it off his truck, Mathew replied I kept

blowing my horn until it crawled away. if none of you believe me, go look at the hood

of my trunk and tell me how the spider webs and dents got there.Just don’t do what I

did, stay out of Wellington Forrest and away from it as far as you can.

****

As the truckers tell their stories one by one, they pay their bill and get ready to head out

again. They made you wonder if the stories told was fact or fiction, but it didn’t really matter

in the end. For they were entertaining and made Maggie’s job well worth it. She put in two

quarters in the old beat up jukebox and punched in A-22 once again. Don Williams sang

“Maggie’s Dream” as she gathered up the tips and dirty dishes. They all would be back with

new stories while she served up more food and endless cups of hot coffee. But Maggie was

still where she wanted to be, among the truckers sharing a few hours of harmless stories.

If you were a visitor and wanted something to eat or drink, please take a seat and listen to

the stories. But it wouldn’t be in your best interest to believe a word that any of the truckers

said. For they was only doing what they knew how to do to relieve the stress of the long

miles and swamping tales with other truckers over coffee. With a smile and a pocket full

of money ,Maggie locks the cafe doors and heads to her apartment to get some sleep.

****

My apologies for its length if you made it this far. But to make it any shorter-it would not

have had the same effect I wanted. Hope you enjoyed my expanded stories of the truckers.

And I had to include the Don Williams song” Maggie’s Dream” since it dealt with trucker’s.

I really loved that Payge and it certainly wasn’t too long for me. Those truckers had great stories to tell.

I don’t think this was too long. The picture really sets it off. Great work Ms. Payge!!

Love the long version too, Roxanne.
Would like being a trucker in the states—being able to escape onto the open road for weeks on end seems great.

Enjoy hearing the stories truckers have. They often describe themselves as the last cowboys.

there is some trucker saying breaker, breaker. My husband is a truck driver and I have also been on trips with him, that is how I can relate. Great story.
