             The Blue Dauntless Unmasked

“Can’t you give me just one little hint, Kelvin?”

“Quite sorry, Miss Tyler.  Simply out of the question.  His true identity must never be revealed.”

     “But-”

“But me no buts.  The answer is no.”

Linda sighed and sat back on her stool.  She was sitting with Hanover at the hotel bar.  The flight back to Curatongo had been smooth.  The Dauntless set the plane down at dawn, then the professor and his team immediately took the mask of Tindangas to the museum of antiquities.  Now it was Saturday night and Samantha was out on the town with one of the young men from the expedition.  She had offered to get a date for Linda.

“No thanks, Sam.  I’m leaving early Monday and I think I’ll just rest up until then.”

“Hmm.  Methinks my little sister has a crush on the big blue guy.”

Linda had just smiled.  “See you back in New York next week.  We’ll go shopping.  Christmas will be here soon.”

“And then New Year’s Eve.  Golly, Lindy, I hope 1950 will be a better year than 1949.”

     “So do I, Sam.”

That was this morning.  Now Linda was sitting with Kelvin Hanover and thinking maybe she should have accepted her sister’s offer.  It might have gotten her mind off the Blue Dauntless.  After landing the plane, he had simply walked behind a hangar and disappeared.  He didn’t even say good-bye to her.

“Keeping his identity a secret does more than protect him,” continued Hanover.  “It protects you, as well.”

Great story, extremely vivid imagination, I loved the descriptions of everything, especially the graphic details in the cave. The illustrations were terrific- can’t wait for a new story. Sounds like another “yarn” will soon appear. What a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
