Daddy is at home and we’re getting a puppy.
The Constant Chatter Eleven.
I wonder if mommy or daddy are up yet? I can see blue sky outside, bet it’s going to be a sunny day. The traffic is starting to pick up and that means people are heading to work. I think daddy is working the evening shift this week though, so they’re probably sleeping in. I was so happy when daddy found work here in town, now he can live at home with mommy and me. I really didn’t like for him to be away for three or four weeks and then home for just six days, and I know mommy was lonely too. With both of them at home, it seems like we are a real family – not that we weren’t before of course, but it just feels better now. Danny and Mitchell’s daddies have always worked here in town, so now I feel more like one of the boys. There is only one thing that bothers me though, mommy is thinking about going back to work with Dr. Simms, and that means I’ll be getting a babysitter. I hope it’s not old Mrs Smith, I don’t think she ever smiles. Of course, Mrs. Lewis is not much better, but she’s younger and has a good looking daughter, not a lot older then me either- now that might be interesting! Hey! I know, I’m going to go and jump in bed with mommy and daddy, that’s always lots of fun – I just KNOW daddy is going to tickle me again! Lets see how quiet I can be – yep, they’re still sleeping – but not for long!
Daddy says we’re going to get a puppy and asked me if I’d like to go to the animal shelter with him. He says lots of puppies are abandoned by their owners and they have to stay at the shelter until someone gives them a home. I’m real excited, I’d like to get one that no one else wants and he can be a part of our family, we’d never leave him out in the cold. I think everyone should belong to a loving family, don’t you? I told mommy and daddy what I was thinking and they smiled and seemed pleased. Danny and Mitchell don’t have a pet yet, so I’ll be the first and I know they’ll want to come and see him. Oh no, grandma and grandpa are coming, I hope that doesn’t mean we won’t get to the shelter! I’m usually happy to see them, really I am, but I so much want to go look at the puppies. Okay, okay, I know that I have to look happy, I wouldn’t like them to think that I didn’t want to see them. Wow! Grandpa, do you really think you should be lifting me up to the ceiling like this? Don’t you have a heart condition or something? That’s right grandma, you tell him to take it easy, I’m having too much fun up here. Now that I’m back on the floor, I have to run straight to grandma because I know she wants a hug and I can’t play favourites. Stay on the good side of everyone – that’s my motto!
