David had accomplished what few had before him. He got past the Secret Service and got to the president’s family.
The room was soon full of agents, the perimeter was secured and aid was given to the women. This amounted to pressure to stop the bleeding in their legs. Sandra was freed from her bonds and she assisted the women and accompanied them to the hospital. The women were given emergency aid and IV’s were started. By then Marine 1 and the backup were preparing to land on the hospital lawn. The women were transferred to it and taken to DC. Three surgical teams and the president were waiting for them. He was shuffled aside as his wife and daughters were hustled through to the emergency room and then to surgery. The two girls were taken to recovery in about an hour and a half. Mitzi was not out of surgery for more than three hours. Several Secret Service agents paced the room.
