Amy replied, “Don’t worry mom.  It’s good news, want to go over and see?”

Mitzi was still standing “Sure, if I can ride.  I don’t think you can walk that far.  But I like the view from up here.  I like the extra height.  This is the view my sister Tracey had since she was fifteen.”

“You earned the ride.  You made your morning ten mile hike.”

“It felt like one.” she said as she was wheeled over. 

“It will get easier.  I know it will be more difficult for you than Jaci but she is doing great because she is pushing.  You and Judi need to start pushing yourselves like she does.”

“She always was the one to, you know what I mean.”

“I’m sure I do.”

Judi overheard the conversation and wheeled to the table too.  If mom was coming over and her sister needed her, she must be there too.

One of the men came in with a cart and pushed it over to the table.  Amy moved up to it.  “We have something for you here.  We’re going to replace your leg.  That’s one of the good things about this, if you don’t like your leg, you change it.”

“Replace it with what?”

“While we were working with your mom and Judi one of the guys got a knee and foot together for you.  It’s not what you would get for a permanent leg, but it has some advantages over the peg leg you have been wearing.  We’re ready to put it on and let you try it.  Are you?”

“Let’s have a go at it.”

The new leg looked only a little more like a leg than the pylon.  It was a short tube that had a joint that looked like a hinge, another tube and something that sort of looked like a foot.  She showed Jaci how to lock the knee making the more complex leg like the pylon with one exception it had a foot, not just a crutch tip.   It actually looked stranger and less like a real leg to her than the pylon.  She wondered when she would get a leg that looked like a leg but with Judi and her mother watching she wasn’t going to ask.
