Damage control is always the political answer.

That done Tracy jumped in. “I have an idea, see if this flies. If someone who looked like Mitzi could go through the hospital hall with Secret Service guard and on crutches with obviously injured but intact legs, would that help?”

“We don’t want to deceive the press.”

“We never say it’s Mitzi, but we let them draw their conclusions. I could do that, use these braces and have them bandage my knees.”

Everyone looked at each other. Betty shook her head, “So we give you three agents, you walk around the halls, someone sees you, the word is out, the first lady is up and on her feet. Why would you do that?”

Mitzi broke in, “To buy something for the girls. Let’s say I go to one of the shops downstairs. People get a chance to see me, of course it is Tracy.”

“I have a better idea, let’s let Tracy go to PT when there are others there, let her go through the process, we’ll have to get her knees bandaged before she goes down.”

“I like that,” Betty observed.

“But you’re going to have to be really careful to not do anything you shouldn’t be able to do that may come back to haunt us later. I don’t want to later find that we are accused of deception.”

“With these braces, there is no way.”

The plan formed, they would send Tracy to PT the next morning. From there she would execute the plan.

Jason and Kathy were picked up by the D.C. police and taken to a station near their home. From there they were picked up in a car and taken to the hospital.

They were escorted to the room the president’s family was in and they met with Mitzi. She was in the leg casts, so were the girls. The girls were busy with their computers. Kathy and Jason were told they were doing their schoolwork. After a short discussion the nurse came over and asked them to leave. They had learned nothing. They were back home two hours later.
