Later in the evening a free lance photographer – reporter came into Kathy’s room.  He identified himself as Jason Lehman.  She recognized the name immediately.  He asked if she knew the presidential candidate’s wife had just visited someone in the hospital.  He had traced her visit to this floor and wing but didn’t know the room number. 

She laughed, “Sure I know.”

“Who did she visit?”

“Me.”

“You?  You’re her worst enemy.  Why would she visit you?”

”She brought me a gift.”

“Bull, you’re hiding something.”

“There isn’t much to hide.  She visited me to give something to me.”

“What would she consider important enough to bring to you that she would slip out of their apartment and try to lose the press?”

“She brought me something very personal.”

 “Come on.  If you tell me we can share the story.  I’ll take the pictures.  You write the story.  We sell them together.  You get enough money to pay for your hospital stay.”

“It’s already paid for.”  She looked at the box on the stand.  It had the card from Mitzi on it.  “Here, look at the present, and the card.”

He opened the card and read the message.  Then he opened the box and saw the bra and the set of Accents.  “She brought these for you?  Why?”

“Do you remember the story about her?”

“Yes, I thought you would be fired when the story came out that it was wrong.”

“I wanted to hold the original story to have time to check, my editor pushed it.  I knew we didn’t have positive proof.  When it fell through he knew that if he fired me I would go public on him.”

“So why did she bring these?”

“When she called my bluff we had to submit to physicals, her and I, she won.  In the physical I found out that my breast implants had problems and needed to come out.  I didn’t have the money.  She pushed my editor to pay for it.  She did it to help me.  I had to submit to have pictures taken and I wrote an anonymous article on it.”
