The first chapter in a piece of original fiction based around the idea of vampire hunters in New York City. It follows the students (hunters in training at the time) a few years after the hunters have been scattered at the loss of their city to the vampires.

Jasper –

“Come on,” She protested, tugging on his arm, trying to pull him away from the ruins he visited every night; disrupting his vigil, “Let’s hunt!”

“No thanks,” Jasper told her, “I’m busy.”

“Staring at a pile of rubble? If you think your old friends are just going to drop by for a visit, I’d think again Jazzy. Now come on, you’re wasting moonlight!” Jazzy. He hated that name. A quick glance up at the blonde standing over him was enough to confirm that he hated her too. Once there might have been love, but now? Not a chance in Hell.

“I said no, Megaera, so just get lost. Go hunt or go throw yourself off a cliff for all the good that would do. I don’t care.” He wasn’t even looking at her. Not that it mattered either way.

She threw something at his back as she left. “Be there by two. And yes, that’s an order.”

“Bitch.” It was a card key to a hotel room. Who knew what that would mean?

                “Pussy.”

“Angel.” It hurt a bit to say, but her reaction was absolutely priceless.

“What did you call me?” Megaera spat back, no longer leaving. She closed the distance between them again, grabbing Jasper by his hair and yanking his head back forcefully.

He didn’t even bother reacting to the pain anymore. It simply didn’t matter. “What? My sweet, innocent, little angel?” He taunted her in a saccharine tone. His throat was burning, but it was worth it when she flinched.
